Stick at it girl! Vincent van Gogh had no talent in his lifetime and then look what happened.
Another idea is to tell everyone their card will be a blog next Christmas about recycling and saving landfill space.Scrooge would have loved saving the planet - he made a start by reducing the carbon footprint of his office. Then he got cheerful. What a shame!
Happy new year!

Well, unfortunately, after buying my watercolours I realised that I actually have zero talent when it comes to art.

So I went for the cheapest option of all and just didn't send any cards!

So for a progress update, I would say: "Too much effort", unfortunately! I have kept my art material though and will DEFINITELY make some cards this year!

I doubt the bleak statements are exaggerated bt most people will not face up to house-of-cardsness of the situation until they have spent up. For many people who have lost their jobs or cannot manage their debts that position has already arrived and they will have had to economise already; for many others the sales will bring the situation nearer as they find themselves unable to resist buying something for 50% of the price in the belief they are saving money.
A bit lie losing weight generally depends on eating less, saving depends on spending less. That is apart from that widescreen TV that I haven't got and really ned because I can get one as big as my window for £677. what a snip!

This is very laudable as long as your reindeers don't look like dogs with horns or your sheep like dogs with wool. There is nothing like a home-made card but if it were me that might not be a good thing.
As for frocks, parties and lunches, well maybe the best bet is to hold a frock swap party at lunchtime and ask everyone to bring their own butties. If they bring a bit of salad that might stave off the heart attack too.
If you are driving drink carefully.

    Hi Alice,
Very interesting to read your Pilfered Blackberries story....would love to know where you got then. Its this kind of sharing that simply has to be secret of good food for all.
It also exactly the reason I've decided to do something about it and have created Fruit4Free (http://fruit4free.ning.com/).
I pass hedgrows and fruit tress every day where 95% goes to waste when it could be enjoyed so much more by us hungry horses!
Would be great to add your recipe to the website!
Cheers
The value ranges at supermarkets are a minefield.
It's not just the food that you have to be careful with - value bin bags have all the rubbish retention powers of cling film and value sponge scourers disintigrate as you do your washing up.
I once bought some value plates for about 20 p each. They're silver and plastic. I thought "wow, these are great, not only do they look swanky but I can drop them and it won't matter."
When I was eating my dinner and I noticed that there were tiny silver flecks floating about in it I realised the error of my ways.

Once again I must extol the virtues of my old hobby - stolen things are always good value...

Glad I could be of help, Steve.

I imagine the White Lightning gave a lovely appley taste to the pigeon.

Although, Wokingham's pigeons seem to exist on a diet of cigarette butts and dropped food so perhaps that overpowered it somewhat.

You've inspired me. Last night I made my own Coq au Riesling on an even tighter budget.
Pigeon au White Lightning.
It was rubbish but at least I had half a bottle of premium strength cider left to wash the taste (and feathers) away.

Frankly, urging Hester Blumenthal to eat his heart out is not a responsible thing to say. Given his history of nitrogen assisted cooking and bizarre flavours, I fear "My own heart tossed in balsamic vinegar and red wine" may be making its way to a restaurant table soon.

Zoe - I love the idea of filling a flask up with water!

Yay the WI, penny pinching all the way.

Actually, here's a top tip, it's cheaper to boil water via a gas hob than the kettle. I hope that helps the NHS wage go further.

I'm not sure I could cope with a beans on toast diet, but after eating some less-than-delicious beans on toast yesterday I am going to do a taste test on value beans in the near future so stay tuned!
