Tightening my financial belt…

Then loosening it again with an enormous meal.

A good thing to come out of the credit crunch is the cheap food deals at supermarkets.

My most recent brilliant deal was at Morrisons, where for the princely sum of £5.50 I bought:

Duck pancakes with plum sauce

Beef in black bean sauce with egg fried rice

Chicken chow mein

A packet of prawn crackers

Four bottles of Cobra beer.

It was delicious and, while obviously not the healthiest, it was good to know you can still have a relaxing meal with absolutely zero effort.
